During the Advent and Christmas seasons the focus turns to that silent, holy night 2000 years ago when things were calm and bright. At least that is how we typically think about it. When we dig into what was really happening at that time, things were anything but calm and bright. Even today, many of us wouldn’t characterize our world or lives as being calm or bright. And yet, Christ entered into the world to provide us with the holy, calm, brightness of rest in him. During this Advent season, as our lives tend to speed up and become filled with noise, we are going to explore what it means and looks like to experience rest in the Incarnate Christ—a hopeful rest, rest in the midst of the wilderness, a rest that transforms, and that often comes in unexpected ways.
