“Superficiality is the curse of our age. The doctrine of instant gratification is a primary spiritual problem. The desperate need today is not for a greater number of intelligent people, or gifted people, but for deep people.” This is how Richard Foster begins his modern spiritual classic, Celebration of Discipline. In it, he calls Christians to the deeper life of faith through the means that God has given us; namely the various spiritual disciplines that place us right where God wants us, in order to transform us. Drawing from scripture and Foster’s book, throughout August we are going to explore the life-giving disciplines that God has given us to be formed more deeply in his image. From meditation to prayer, simplicity to service, confession to celebration, God meets us, and remakes us, through these gifts of his grace.
