Fellow UMC pastor Brad Kalajainen tells a story he heard from a friend who was touring the campus of Notre Dame University with his uncle. His uncle was an alumnus and took him through the basilica that was fashioned after a European style cathedral. He said that a lot of people want to get married there, so the waiting list is quite long.
Then his uncle went on to tell him about one freshman guy who reserved the basilica his first semester in college for a wedding date four years down the road! The young student had no idea who he was going to marry when he did that, but he reserved the chapel on faith! And it actually worked out! He met someone and they were married in the basilica following graduation.
Sometimes you just have to act on faith!
And that’s certainly the case when it comes to going “all in” with relational evangelism; being intentional about developing and deepening relationships with others not currently connected to Christ and the church…listening to their stories and sharing your story…all possibly leading to a conversation down the road that really counts. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) Going “all in” is not about fear, when we step out in faith…in the power, love and understanding God gives us!
