Behind Every Big Moment…

Don’t know about you, but I’m really enjoying the Winter Olympics!  There have already been many thrilling moments of competition and athletic performance…all with the gorgeous backdrop of the snow draped mountains of the Sochi region of Russia.

The week’s leading up to the Winter Olympics, and the current prime time coverage, have brought with it lots of TV commercials.  Many try to make a lasting impression on consumers by connecting with Olympic athletes in some way.  They don’t get all the hype of Super Bowl commercials…but some of them are pretty good!

One creative commercial series connects with various U.S. Winter Olympic athletes by showing how their big moments of victory are only made possible by lots of little moments of achievement, victory, and even moments of defeat.  The tag line for the commercials is “Behind every big moment…are lots of small ones.”  Click here to watch a few of them.

When we think of moments of awe and wonder in our lives, we normally go back to one big moment when something extraordinary caught our attention or happened to us.  But I wonder if it’s less the big extraordinary thing that is the main cause for that “Wow” moment, and rather all the many smaller moments of awe leading up to it.

When it comes to God’s activity in our lives, I really think that’s more what it’s like.  Behind every big moment of the awe of God, are lots of small moments of grace.  As the Psalmist says, “You have multiplied, O LORD my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us: none can compare with you.” (Psalm 40:5, NRSV).

Be sure to watch for both the big, and small, moments of God’s love faithfulness, and salvation today.

In God’s grace,

Pastor Steve
