Creator and Redeemer
“But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.’” Isaiah 43:1-2
The ancient words of the prophet reminded the people of Israel who God was and who they were. God is their Creator…formed them as individuals and as a people. God is their Redeemer…took action to bring them out of Egyptian slavery. God knows them intimately (calls them by name) and claims them as his own. Because of who God is and who they are, they need not fear, for God will never leave them alone.
The prophet’s words are meant for you too. God is your Creator…formed you…calls you by name. God is your Redeemer…pulls you from slavery to sin and death. Because of who God is and who you are, you need not fear. No matter how high the river of opposition, no matter how deep the valley sorrow, no matter how hot the fire of life’s trials…The Christ who is coming anew into your life…Emmanuel God with you, is always there with you, for you, and in you.
Remember…and live fearlessly!
