So, how’s you bracket looking?
Whether you’re a hard-core college basketball fan or just a casual annual participant in a “March Madness” office pool, you’ve had to re-calculate your NCAA tournament predictions more than once in the last couple of weeks. Who knew #16 University of Maryland-Baltimore County would beat #1 Virginia in the opening round. And who knew Loyola-Chicago would make it all the way to the Final Four.
No matter what the seeding of the teams in “March (now into April) Madness,” the game’s outcome can always be surprising! And when major upsets occur, they’re aptly nick-named “bracket busters.” They alter just about everyone’s tournament predictions…and the look and feel of the “March Madness” experience. “Bracket busters” change everything!
When the women followers of Jesus went to the tomb early on that first Easter Sunday morning…they had the foundation of their reality…their very way of thinking about life and death…turned upside down! Expecting to find Jesus’ cold lifeless body, they found God’s messenger instead proclaiming, “He has been raised! He isn’t here…he’s going on ahead of you into Galilee.”
And in that moment, they experienced the very first Easter Shift! Because Jesus had been raised, death was no longer the “finality” they once thought it to be. Because Jesus wasn’t there in the tomb…their fears, failures, and faithlessness were forgiven and left behind!
There is no greater bracket buster, than the reality of Christ’s resurrection! Then, as now, Easter changes everything! And then, as now, the reality of Christ’s resurrection demands a huge shift in thinking and living!
Christ is risen! Embrace this Easter Shift!
