Kings and queens; knights in shining armor and damsels in distress; castles and courts and jesters; armies and battles; peasants and fiefdoms; chivalry and conquest; thrones and dominion and power.  These are all things we might think of when we hear the word ‘kingdom’.  Jesus came proclaiming a kingdom; a very different kind of kingdom—an otherworldly kingdom—but a kingdom that was and is very much at hand.  What is that kingdom like?  Jesus tells us.  The way he tells us, though, is through parables.  If we want to be faithful to Jesus and his way of life, we have to understand the nature of his kingdom.  Through July we are going to dig into a few of Jesus’ parables about the kingdom he came proclaiming.  In doing so, the goal is to be able to see his kingdom at hand and all around us.
