Living in the Past…and the Future
“This is my anthem, this is my song; the theme of the stories I’ve heard for so long. God has been faithful, He will be again…” Sara Groves
Love this song…“He’s Always Been Faithful to Me.” Its lyrics and feel is a familiar, yet powerful, reminder of how the memory of God’s saving actions in the past, and the promise of God’s grace and faithfulness in the future, are what gives my life the solid foundation it needs. It’s not always easy though…especially when we find ourselves standing in the face of fear. Hey, it happens…right? Maybe it’s an important relationship that’s falling apart…a very serious diagnosis…a threat to job or home…a life changing decision to make. When it happens, doing nothing is really not an option. But as the remarkable Biblical story of baby Moses’ birth and rescue reminds us (Exodus 2:1-10), in the face of fear, people of faith act, because paralysis in the face of fear is risky business!
But it’s important that the decisions we make and the actions we take are properly grounded. It’s important that our actions are based on faith and trust in God…on that memory of God’s saving actions in the past and the promise of God’s grace and faithfulness in the future. So take a moment to think about God’s faithfulness and work in your life. Then in the memory of that faithfulness, boldly live and take action in the very real promise that God will do the same in your future. Pray and live into this prayer: “God, today help me to make good decisions to act, based on my faith and trust in you.”
