More Than Meets The Eye
A little before 4 p.m. yesterday, I looked up and was surprised to see a whole bunch of jet trails. I counted nine moving jet trails in a relatively small area low on the southwest horizon. The distant jets were all moving in different directions, speeds, levels and angles. It was a magnificent moving picture painted on the brilliant blue canvas of the autumn sky.
For a few minutes I was memorized by the sight and lost in thought. Where were all those planes coming from and headed…Dallas, St. Louis, Phoenix, Chicago, Miami, New York, Denver? Why were all those people traveling…business, vacation, job interview? Who was waiting for them at their destination…a family member, friend, co-worker, no one? What was going on in their lives…what’s stressing them out, what are they celebrating, who are they talking to, what are they working on? What does the future hold for them all?
In the midst of all those questions, I was reminded of words from Psalm 139. “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely… Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” (Psalm 139:1-4, 6).
God knows and cares about all those hundreds of people on those 9 jets…And God knows and cares all about you! Remember whose you are.
Hope to see you Sunday,
