As you start your “end-of-the-summer” cleaning, what can you do with those shoes in your closets that no longer fit or that you no longer need? You can make a life-changing healthy impact in Nicaragua!
August 26 – September 9, Ozark UMC will be collecting gently-used or new shoes for our mission partner the Rainbow Network. The shoes will be shipped to rural Nicaragua this fall, where the Rainbow Network ministry is at work.
With no cars and few bicycles, quality footwear is a critical need in rural Nicaragua. Many people there go barefoot for lack of appropriate footwear and are often afflicted with parasites as a result. The shoes you donate to Ozark UMC’s collection will make a significant impact in the health, and quality of life, for Nicaraguan children and adults.
Specific gently used or new shoes will be accepted. Tennis shoes, casual shoes, work shoes, and sandals with straps are needed. Please, no fancy dress shoes, no high heels, and no flip flops. All donated shoes must have the soles attached all the way around. Shoes requiring laces should have the laces in them. In order to keep shoes together during shipment, please tie shoe laces together and tie or rubber band sandals together.
The Ozark UMC shoe drive runs from August 26 – September 9. You can drop off your shoe donations in the Worship Center on Sunday mornings, or bring them by the church office Monday – Friday from 9 am to 1 pm. For more information contact Max Bodenhausen (firstname.lastname@example.org, 417-443-3690), or the church office at 581-6853.
